The Sting (1973)

Robert Redford, Paul Newman (who already worked together in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)) and Robert Shaw star in this (IMDB top 250) movie about a couple of conmen who want to do a very big con. It’s a great heist movie which reminded me of the exact opposite of Ocean’s Eleven, as in this case the money will come to them.

The story is set in the thirties of last century and the sets look beautiful, just as the costumes. The movie has been split up in various chapters which all are part of setting up the big con. This way the moviewatcher becomes part of the plan and you really want the con to succeed and are constantly checking if they don’t make any mistakes which can make the target suspicious. A fun fact about this movie is that Robert Shaw, as Doyle Lonnegan, limps during the movie. This is however not some nice acting on his part, but the result of an accident he had when playing a ball game, resulting in an ankle which was hurting him.

If you like heist movies, then you really can’t miss this movie.

Score: 9
