Half Baked (1998)

Dave Chappelle is one of my favourite comedians ever (as is Chris Rock). This movie, which was made far before he became really famous with his own show already show how good he is in his timing of jokes. In the movie Dave Chappelle’s Block Party (which i have given an 8, it really is a great music movie with lots of funny moments) he told how important timing is when he compares it to playing music.
I saw the movie ages ago and wanted to see it again. Although it’s a movie that will surely be popular to people who like to get high, it’s also a movie you can see if you don’t.

These four guys love to get high every day and have their rituals for it. When they get the munchies one of them has to go to the store to get some food. Through a lot of bad luck he ends up in jail. The others want to get him out and as they don’t have any money they are forced to sell marijuana to raise bail.

The movie has some scenes which I consider classic comedy moments. The scene in which Scarface quits his job is extremely funny, the scene in which Thurgood Jenkins has to sign for receiving a package of marijuana and the moment he comes out of work and yells “Free!” are all moments which I can keep watching.

Just like the Harold and Kumar movies, Half baked is a typical “stoner” movie with great humor. To summarise: Highly recommended!

Score: 8
