Grown Ups (2010)

When I saw the picture above I thought that when a movie has so many well-known comedians, it must be amazing. So my expectations were very high when i watched it. Are Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, James Spade, Kevin James and Rob Schneider able to meet these expectations?

The short answer is no, because the movie is actually pretty bad. There is hardly any story to speak of. When their basketball coach dies the team members, who won the championship when they were kids, meet each other again at his funeral. They decide to all stay in the same cabin (including wives and children) and because they haven’t seen each other for a while this leads to some friction. That’s basically all there is to the movie.

The thing you will notice when you watch the movie is that the cast had fun making it. The witty remarks they make about each other was something I enjoyed seeing. I also liked seeing Steve Buscemi in a small cameo. The focus of the movie is mainly on the men, but the ladies also have a couple of scenes, although these are more your typical women-together-having-fun kind of scenes and are not as funny.

If I’m really honest I have to say that Grown ups is a horrible movie, there really is not special about it. But the movie also has this “feel good vibe” which had an effect on me. I should have scored this movie much lower as I did, but I just couldn’t set myself to do it as I finished watching it with a smile on my face.

Score: 7
