The Fly (1986)

There are some movies that have scenes which you will never forget. For me The Fly is one of those movies. It tells the story of Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum), a scientist who is doing research on teleportation. He’s a genius and manages to actually make it a reality. When he decides to teleport himself it turns out he’s not the only one in the machine. As the title already suggest a fly also is present in the machine, and The Fly shows what a human/fly hybrid could be. The reason that I remember quite a lot about this movie is because of the excellent special effects and make up, which are sometimes quite gross.

Jeff Golbums “Seth Brundle” is probably the role everyone will remember him playing (besides his role in Jurassic Park). There’s enough reason to do so as his acting is amazing. Despite his slow transformation and with a lot of makeup he still manages to show that the monster you are seeing has a human core. No matter how horrible he looks, you can’t help but feel sorry for the Brundlefly, which really is because of Goldblum’s acting. I was also impressed by Geena Davis (who was Golblums girlfriend at the time of filming), especially when she sees what is happening to Brundle. She manages to show the pain that she feels because of it and the fear of what might happen.

If you like science fiction movies, don’t have a weak stomach and want to enjoy a great story, then The Fly will be a movie which you’ll definitely enjoy.
