The Monday Question: What do you think of the first half of our movie year?

The Monday Question

I just realised that we are already almost halfway of the year and thought it was a good moment to get an idea of the general feeling about this year. Looking at the number of movies I’ve seen and written down as potential candidates for my end of year list I think 2015 is turning out to be a pretty good year. There were other years where I wasn’t able to fill a top 10 list, but now I’m already there and there are still a lot of (potential) awesome movies to be released during the second half of the year. Personal favorites of mine include Mad Max: Fury Road, Kung Fury, Inside Out, Ex Machina, Chappie and Furious 7.

  1. Jealous you got to see an early screening of Inside Out ! My top 5 so far:
    1. World of Tomorrow (short)
    2. Mad Max: Fury Road
    3. Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief (documentary)
    4. A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence
    5. Wild Tales

    • I was extremely happy when I got the chance to see it early. Had to make some arrangements in order to do so, but I’m happy I did.

Never heard of World of Tomorrow, but I’m very curious now. Have seen your numbers 2,3 and 5. Number 4 I’ve heard of, but haven’t checked out yet.

  2. So far I think 2015 is pretty weak when it comes to films, I hated CHAPPIE, it will be on my worst list for sure. I’ve yet to see Ex Machina though, looking forward to seeing it. FF 7 was just bloated, only two movies I really like Fury Road and Age of Ultron. Let’s hope the last half the year will better, I mean with SPECTRE and STAR WARS 7, those can’t be disappointing, I hope not anyway.

    • Hmmm…I wasn’t as fond of Age of Ultron and I can understand the reasons for people not liking Chappie. I’m looking forward to finding out if Spectre and Star Wars are good.

  3. Hey Nostra! Interesting that you asked this as I was just drafting my top 5 of the year. I think Ex Machina and Fury Road would be on there.

    • Can’t fault you for those. Just saw Fury Road for a second time at the cinema yesterday and it was as awesome as it was the first time. I’m sure you’ll love Inside Out as well once that is generally available.
