Bon Bini Holland (2015)

Review Bon Bini Holland

In the Netherlands comedian Jandino Asporaat has managed to gain a huge following with his Dino show and also managed to sell out one of the biggest venues, something which you normally don´t see comedians do over here. I´ve never been a huge fan of his shows and only really liked his shorts about the people working at FC Kip (basically a parody of KFC). It is that part of his show which has now been made bigger in Asporaat’s new movie, Bon Bini Holland. Which doesn’t only focus on that restaurant, but has a bigger story.

Review Bon Bini Holland

The story revolves around Robertico Florentina (Asporaat) who is a con man, who sells unexpected tourists on the island of Curacao on renting a beautiful house which isn’t his. Unfortunately he picks the wrong house and people to do this to and he is forced to raise a big amount of money for a local criminal. He decides to run and travel to the Netherlands. He stays with his aunt Judesca (also played by Asporaat and his most popular character) in Rotterdam and tries to find a new way to make money. When he meets millionaire Ken Maduro (Dennis Rudge) he sees a new victim from who he might be able to get some money. He cooks up a presentation about a new bungalow park he wants to build in Curacao and for which he needs someone to invest. But when he falls in love with Maduro’s daughter Noëlla (Liliana de Vries) it complicates matters.

“a very enjoyable comedy…”

Asporaat has made a wise decision to focus on Robertico’s story and not on Judeska, making the movie stronger as a whole. Because of that you don’t get an overdose of a specific type of humour, making it more even overall. Asportaat plays various other roles though, with Gerrie, Judeska’s neighbour, being responsible for many jokes. As I come from Rotterdam myself it is fun to see on which locations the movie was short. Bon Bini Holland is a very enjoyable comedy, which although being predictable and having several similarities with Coming to America, is worth watching if you are a fan of FC Kip.
