Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016) – Review

The past movie summer wat disappointing for a lot of people and many films didn’t manage to make as much impact as the studio hoped. Some even didn’t manage to really show up on people’s radar and for me it was this sequel to the movie from 2014. I thought the original movie was very disappointing, so I didn’t feel any need to head to the cinema to watch it. But as it is available on DVD I decided to give it a chance as I suspected it would probably have some enjoyable action sequences.

After Shredder was captured in the first film, it seemed New York was safe. But here he manages to escape during a transport and form an alliance with Krang, an alien. The turtles have to try and stop them, with help from April O’Neil (Megan Fox) and a police officer who feels ignored by his boss.

“some entertaining action sequences…”

When it comes ot tone Out of the Shadows is less serious than its predecessor. You don’t only see it in how the turtles act, but also the other characters. This includes some which used to be in the cartoons like Bebop and Rocksteady. It makes for some entertaining action sequences, including a thrilling chase scene and an infiltration of a building. Bad guy Krang has been realised impressively and is a much more interesting character than Shredderis. And although the film is better than the original, it still doesn’t manage to be really good. It will mainly be appealing to younger viewers. It offers some entertainment, but is too simplistic to generate much brain activity.

  1. BEST Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie EVER!!! My grandkids are into TMNT so I’ve seen them all (cartoons too). Usually I’m neutral if not bored, but I was thoroughly wrapped up in this one. It’s a fun movie. Lots of action but no blood and gore. Very refreshing. I’m looking forward to a #3. 🙂
