The number of Korean films released annually in the cinema over here is minimal. Of course it is a matter of supply and demand, but it is unfortunate to see because so many good titles are made that can not be viewed here and are often not even released on DVD. Fortunately, Netflix is offering more and more Korean films, including this Netflix original.
Investigative journalist Choi Dae-Ho (Soo Go) has been struggling with the disappearance of his son during a visit to an amusement park for 3 years. Choi became unwell and saw how he was taken and became obsessed by his disappearance. He hears about new research that makes it possible to go back into his memories and to experience and explore an event again. This results in a number of new leads, but repeatedly undergoing the procedure is not without risks and the question is whether he will find his son this way.
Visiting events you’ve previously experienced is of course very similar to what was done with dreams in Inception. It’s a great concept, but unfortunately Lucid Dream quickly turns into an average movie that never gets really exciting, which is a shame. There is little to criticise when it comes to the actors. The film is ok to watch, but it could have done so much more with the idea. So maybe not a new Korean must-see on Netflix, but the fact that Korean films are added is a positive development.
