Things you hear too much in movies – Part 2

There are lines which you hear too much in movies. In part 1 I already focussed on some. Time for part 2!

Is that all you’ve got?

This can be used in movies where aliens are trying to take over the earth, sports or action movies. It’s a classic line which shows that the character doesn’t give up that easily.

You’ll have to go on without me!

Two or more characters have been through a lot together. There is a moment during which one of the characters is too weak/wounded or stuck and tells the other one to forget about them. A moment for heroics and drama.

You’ll never get away with this!

Perfect for movies about revenge or over the top bad guys who just explained their plans.

You stabbed/shot/etc me!

You have a situation during which one character is held hostage. The good guy decides to neutralize the baddie by hurting the one that’s in the way on purpose. It usually turns out to be a “flesh wound”, which in itself could also be one to add to this list.

You just don’t get it, do you?

An easy way to have a character explain something, making sure that the viewer also knows what’s going on.

Let’s split up

Probably the one which leads to the most frustrating moments for people watching, especially during a horror movie. You already know it means trouble.

If I’m not back in 5 minutes…

Perfect if you want to create tension or want someone to appear heroic. But why is it almost always five minutes?

You’ve got to be kidding me!

Can be used in many situations. For example: As the hero you thought you just beat a huge monster, but he turns out to still be alive. But also if someone forgot to tell a character something and decides to relay that information at the worst possible moment.

Give me one good reason why….

Can be used by both good and bad guys, add words like “I should let you live”, “why I should trust you”, etc.

You will know when to use this

The protagonist receives something and he hears that he’ll know when it will be relevant. I don’t know if people can look into the future, but it almost never happens that what they got can’t be used!

I told you I didn’t want to be disturbed! Sir, you are going to want to take a look at this

Great to use in disaster movies when a politician or manager has to know that something really bad is going on.

Are you crazy?

Stay in the car!

Turns out that the person hearing it almost never listens!

It’s gonna blow!

Want to build up tension? Use this to prepare the audience for something spectacular.

Are there any you are missing?

  1. Fun collection of overused quotes Nostra! I guess many are from action movies. The supercuts are funny. “I’ve got a bad feeling about this” is another 🙂
