Disney+ : My first experience with it

Disney+ review
Altough the official worldwide rollout of Disney+ won’t be happening until the 12th of November (US and Canada) and the 19th (Australia and New Zealand), today the Netherlands got a nice surprise. Disney has chosen it to do a test run with the service and you could sign up for free for the coming two months. Of course I was interested in this and this morning I’ve been browsing through the service. Here are my first thoughts about it.

Disney+ interface
The interface after logging in will be very familiar to for example Netflix-users. A big block up top promoting several movies and quick links to all type of movies and shows in various categories. The unique thing about Disney+ though is that you can go straight to the studio of which you want to see content, Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic. When hovering over these there is a short animation.

So within the Marvel “world” you will see the MCU movies, but also various Marvel shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, The Runaways, Agent Carter and Inhumans. Plus Marvel cartoons (Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Iron Man) and Marvel Mini-Adventures (Guardians of the Galaxy shorts, Ant-Man shorts).

Currently the trial version of the service doesn’t have the new big shows yet and as far as I can see only has already released content on it, but it’s a lot. All the Star Wars movies are there (in order) and of course all the big Disney classics (and various remakes) can be found there too.

As with Netflix you can create various profiles and there is a wide selection of characters you can choose from for your profile picture.

You can make a list of movies you want to see and there’s also the possibility to download movies to watch on the go via the app (and as far as I’ve seen this is possible for all titles). The option to download does not appear on a desktop.

Underneath each title there’s and extra’s tab and although various titles only have a trailer, some of them have deleted scenes, as you can see above for Infinity War.

There’s a lot of content to keep you busy if you want to rewatch and there are definitely things to be found you probably haven’t seen yet and find interesting. I for example have missed some Pixar shorts, hadn’t seen Free Solo yet (which can be found in National Geographic’s content) and found a documentary about Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston. Kids will love the service and I’m sure mine won’t be bored of the service the coming two months. Personally I don’t rewatch many movies, so I’m still waiting for the exclusive content that will come (probably) in November, but my first impression is a positive one.

  1. Ooh how lucky! I’ve dabbled in different streaming services but as a big Disney & Star Wars fan with a youngster, Disney+ is going to be a must-have in our house. Thanks for the insight!

  2. Hey, thanks for giving us a little preview. I think I’ll likely end up signing up. Disney is a big draw.
Do you think all the Disney movies are there? Anything from Fox – The Simpsons?
