Up to Tricks, Tom Mix: five of the greatest bingo scenes from Film and TV

Bingo scenes from movies and television are rare, but, on the occasion that they are thrown up on our screens, they are often exciting. And, as the popularity of bingo continues to heighten, a number of online platforms like Booty Bingo are now offering online bingo games at the touch of a button.

Here are five of the greatest bingo scenes portrayed on film and TV.

King of the Bingo Game (1999)

A Ralph Ellison novel turned into a gloomy yet gripping film, King of the Bingo Game turns bingo into a rather sombre affair. Sonny – an African-American – plays bingo at his local hall in a bid to fight the Great Depression.

Not only does the bingo hall provide Sonny with a getaway from his own sorrow, it also gives the protagonist a chance to raise money for his struggling family. Unfortunately for Sonny, white overseers will never let his hopes be realized as the bingo games are fixed.

Curb Your Enthusiasm (2005)

Starring as himself, Larry David, cannot contain himself in a bingo game in season five of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Believing he was won the game, David hails “BINGO!”, but is told by the humourless bingo caller that he is wrong.

In an obvious turn of events, David goes on to lose the game before provoking the wrath of his fellow bingo-goers by yelling that he should have won all along.

Big Momma’s House 2 (2006)

Malcom Turner stars once more as FBI agent-turned the Fuller family’s nanny in Big Momma’s House 2. Turner takes the children to a bingo hall only for daughter Carrie to yell “BINGO!” as a joke.

Only, the bingo players do not find it funny and the nanny has to avert a crisis by lecturing Carrie whilst also trying to calm the passionate mob down in true Big Momma style.

Rampage (2009)

Whilst the films listed above are humorous, Rampage is far from a comedy – though the bingo hall scene is rather ticklish. A story of a young man that goes on a killing spree with machine guns, somehow works its way to a bingo hall.

Whilst the players immerse themselves in the game, they are oblivious to a heavily-armed and armored killer sitting alongside them, giving the movie a light-hearted reprieve from the gory background.

Better Call Saul (2015)

Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) becomes a bingo caller in the incredibly popular Better Call Saul in an attempt to coerce his audience to become clients – he is, of course, a lawyer that finds it difficult to keep morals.

Whilst Saul pours his heart out in what can only be described as an impressive soliloquy, the bingo players are concerned only about the game and sit there waiting for the lawyer to finish his outburst.
