The Monday Question: Tradition!

As Christmas slowly approaches people start posting their favorite Christmas movies. Everyone has their favorites and they are usually movies they watch every year. This got me thinking about movie traditions. Are there any movie traditions you enjoy each year?

I must admit that I haven’t got that many of them myself. During Christmas time I always try to watch Home Alone, Elf or The Muppets Christmas Carol. It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve seen them, I still enjoy them as much as I did the first time.

Another tradition I have is to take the day off on my birthday and go to the cinema (the one above is usually the one of choice, which is in the center of Rotterdam). It’s a fairly new tradition (since 2 or 3 years), but one I really enjoy.

Are there any movie traditions you enjoy each year?

  1. When I was little, every Christmas Eve night or maybe the 23rd night, there would be Home Alone playing in our local tv station, so we would always watch that! Now, on the 25th we just see whatever is on tv or pop up a DVD! I love Christmas!

  2. HEHE Our Tradition was achieved this weekend, I will be blogging about it. It envolves a film that reduces me to a blubbering mess, and makes you really feel like xmas has started…. can you guess? Or you can just check my blog this afternoon

  3. I usually try to take my birthday off and use it for the movies. I also watch John Carpenter’s The Fog around 11:55p.m. on the 20th of April (as that’s when the story starts).

    • Taking the day off on my birthday is something I’ve been doing for ages and movie watching has been a part of it, although going to the cinema is recent. Do you watch lots of movies on your birthday?

Never saw the Fog and as horror is not a genre I generally don’t enjoy I don’t think I will.

  4. I don’t really have a tradition, but since a lot of people are watching It’s a Wonderful Life, I might watch another Christmas classic by James Stewart, The Shop Around the Corner, or maybe The Bishop’s Wife.

  5. I love that tradition of going to the movies on your birthday, I might do it next year!

I always watch Christmas films at this time of year to get me into the festive spirit but other than that I don’t really have any. Well, I always watch The Lord of the Rings trilogy every year but I bet you saw that one coming! 😛

Though it’s not particulary a tradition, one of my viewing habits is to watch a franchise in quick succession. This year we watched all of the Harry Potter films over a weekend and watched the Bourne trilogy one after the other.

    • Yeah, you should. It’s always nice to treat yourself to something on your birthday!

No surprise that you rewatch Lord of the Rings 😉

So will you wait for the whole franchise to appear before you start watching?

  6. No traditions per se, but I do try to make it to the cinema every Christmas day to enjoy the newest release! It’s the one day I don’t mind being surrounded by tons of people for 90mins to enjoy a holiday flick of sorts!
